The proposal is to enter the Rolex Middle Sea race in Bongani. Rolf organised a similar team event for this race last year with James as skipper. Tobias has done this race in Sea Wolf for the last two years.
Sea Wolf is another Pronavia 38 and is entering and Tangaroa did the race last year is advertising its participation this year.
The start is spectacular as you can see here.
Take a look at the attached pdf which shows some sensational imagery from the event and captures the atmosphere, the scenery and the pleasure. Download image portfolio

The boat charter is for two weeks from Saturday 15th October to Saturday 29th October
The plan would be for some crew to arrive 16th October to prepare and for the full crew to be there in time for the Coastal Race on Wednesday. This ensures we get to practice and prepare properly for the big race start on Saturday. We have thursday and Friday to provision and prepare the boat.
We do not have to deliver the boat to or from Malta. You just have to get a flight to be there.
We will organise a crew apartment for the week prior to the regatta.
Preparation and practice - Summer racing in the Med
As well as the Coastal race directly prior to the event, we can include a weekend round the cans racing in Gibraltar on Bongani. This would be the Gibralta RYC regatta on 23rd and 24th July. A weekend event. This would be fun as well as involve a lot of practicing of all the different manouevres.
My suggestion would be a crew of 9 with three watches of 3 - on, standby, off.
At present this looks like averaging £1000 to £1100 per crew member to include the boat, accommodation, on boat food. This also includes the Gibraltar event in July. (but sleep on the boat).
I would propose we split this into two bands - so contributions would be either
£900 per person for some
£1300 for others
See Atlantic charters for full commerical per berth place
Additonal costs are on-shore food and flights to Gibraltar and Malta - a quick look at Easyjet suggests £200 return for each journey. There maybe cheaper options
Please let me know if you are interested in this plan. Or what changes you would suggest to the plan. Please add your reaction using the comments box below or you can email firstname.lastname@example.org.
This invitation is open to anyone who feels they can contribute and would like to approach us, not just previous Relentless crew members.
PS. Bongani is also available for the Giraglia Rolex Cup. But this is another £1000 per person.
